Who We Are
Half-Halt Farm is a private dressage facility owned by Ann Belth, a dressage rider who hosts clinics and offers basic dressage and balanced seat instruction. The farm, which is located near Bloomington, Indiana, is operated by Ann and her mother, Marge Belth. It is home to their Arabian geldings, Fire and Shikos. Marge and Ann have ridden, owned, and taken care of horses since Marge purchased her first horse in 1968. Ann competed with Fire through second level at both open and Arabian shows, and they won a Top Five at second level at Region 14 (Arabian) in 1998, which earned them a trip to the U.S. Nationals that year. Ann has been showing less in recent years, but still tries to get to one or two shows each year. Since Fire's retirement, Ann has been schooling Shikos, who Marge purchased in 2005 as a pleasure horse. Initially the plan was to school Shikos in dressage enough to make him easier and more comfortable for Marge to ride. However, he has shown considerable improvement, both in his way of going and in his work ethic, and Marge enjoys seeing him progress. Despite some conformational issues that make him a less than ideal candidate for dressage, he has demonstrated both talent and enthusiasm for the work, particularly where collection is involved. He is currently schooling third level, along with piaffe, passage, and canter pirouettes. Ann has been riding regularly with Linda Heiny for the last several years, first with Fire and then with Shikos. She also rides in clinics with Bettina Drummond as often as possible. Linda teaches occasional clinics at Half-Halt Farm. In 2010, Ann and Linda were honored to bring Ms. Drummond to Indiana for three dressage clinics, and they are thrilled that she is scheduled to return in 2012.
